Not all messaging apps are equal on the subject of encryption

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has been arrested in France on prices of enabling unlawful transactions, failure to offer paperwork to authorities, complicity in possessing baby sexual abuse materials and in distributing CSAM, complicity within the distribution of medication, complicity in organized fraud and cash laundering.

This has naturally created controversy, with many calling it politically motivated, an assault on free speech, and oddly sufficient, an assault on encrypted messaging. I am not going to wade into something about political hit jobs or free speech, however I do have to say one factor—the encryption argument is not actually legitimate as a result of Telegram is not at all times encrypted.
