javascript – Auth0 login redirect failing with “Community connection was misplaced” error on Capacitor iOS app

I’m integrating Auth0 login with my Vue SPA utilizing Capacitor for an iOS native app. The app runs on an iOS emulator (iPhone 16 Professional, iOS 16.0+), however login persistently fails at auth0.handleRedirectCallback with a community error:

Error: “The community connection was misplaced”

Notably, after accessing the Auth0 login area as soon as, the connection to this particular area (login.acme.com or staging-login.acme.dev) stops working fully till the emulator is totally reset. Different web sites proceed working usually.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch the Capacitor Vue app within the iOS emulator.
  2. Provoke Auth0 login (opens Auth0 URL in browser plugin)
  3. Full login efficiently, Auth0 redirects again to the app utilizing customized URL scheme.
  4. The app handles redirect through handleRedirectCallback.
  5. Observe instant “Community connection was misplaced” error at this step.

Atmosphere Setup

  • Vue SPA frontend, utilizing Auth0 SDK: @auth0/auth0-spa-js@^2.1.3
  • Capacitor cli model: 7.2.1
  • iOS Emulator: iPhone 16 Professional, iOS 16+
  • Xcode model: 16.3

Redirect Callback Dealing with

const createNewSession = async (redirectUrl?: string): Promise => {
  console.log(`[Auth0] Creating new session by calling handleRedirectCallback`);
  if (!auth0Client.worth) {
    throw new Error('No Auth0 Shopper');
  }

  const desiredUrl = redirectUrl ?? window.location.href;

  attempt {
    console.log(`[Auth0] dealing with redirect callback utilizing redirectUrl: ${desiredUrl}`);
    const end result = await auth0Client.worth.handleRedirectCallback(desiredUrl); // <-- Fails right here
    console.log('[Auth0] handleRedirectCallback end result', end result);

    const sessionAuthenticated = await auth0Client.worth.checkIfAuthenticated();
    if (sessionAuthenticated) {
      return handleAuthenticatedSession(desiredUrl);
    }
  } catch (err) {
    console.error('[Auth0] Error dealing with redirect callback. Uncooked error:', err);
    // Further error dealing with...
  }
};

Capacitor Config (capacitor.config.ts)

import kind { CapacitorConfig } from '@capacitor/cli';

const config: CapacitorConfig = {
  appId: 'com.acme.app',
  appName: 'Acme',
  webDir: 'dist',
  server: {
    hostname: 'localhost',
    allowNavigation: ['staging-login.acme.dev'],
  },
  ios: {
    contentInset: 'all the time',
    limitsNavigationsToAppBoundDomains: false,
  },
  plugins: {
    CapacitorHttp: { enabled: true },
  },
};

export default config;

Redirect URL Technology (Customized Scheme)

const getRedirectUri = (path: string): string => {
  if (Capacitor.isNativePlatform()) {
    const appId = 'com.acme.app'
    const area = import.meta.env.VITE_DOMAIN
    return `${appId}://${area}/capacitor/${appId}/${path}`
  } else {
    // Use window.location.origin for internet builds/dev server
    return `${window.location.origin}/${path}`
  }
}

###Capacitor URL Listener

App.addListener('appUrlOpen', async (occasion: URLOpenListenerEvent) => {
  console.log('[Capacitor] App opened with uncooked URL:', occasion.url)
  const end result = await handleRedirectCallback(occasion.url)
  console.log('[Capacitor] handleRedirectCallback end result', end result)
  await Browser.shut()
})

Instance Redirect URL from logs (anonymized placeholders):

⚡️ [log] - [Capacitor] App opened with uncooked URL: com.acme.app://login.acme.com/capacitor/com.acme.app/login/callback?code=A_CODE&state=A_STATE_STR

Debugging Data

Safari debug

Already Tried Options

  • Restarting emulator/machine solves briefly however the difficulty returns after one profitable connection.
  • Checked SSL certificates on Auth0 domains

Particular Questions

  • Has anybody confronted related persistent community errors particularly with Capacitor and Auth0?
  • May this be one thing to do with App permissions?
  • Any options for additional debugging or data gathering.
